AS Mount Kinabalu attracts thousands of climbers every year, having an emergency kit to help those in need is vital.
As part of an effort to enhance emergency preparedness in remote and high-traffic areas, the “Life in Every Beat” project facilitated the placement of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the Timpohon Gate of Mount Kinabalu.
The AED was donated by Cepatwawasan Group Berhad in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Bandar Utama, during which Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED training were also conducted for park staff.
Rotary Club of Bandar Utama president Evian Foo stated that the AED and training are intended to enhance preparedness in the event of a cardiac emergency at the entry point to the climb.
“Mount Kinabalu attracts thousands of climbers each year, and its physically demanding terrain highlights the importance of a timely emergency response.
“This initiative reflects the power of partnerships in safeguarding lives. We are grateful for the support and cooperation that brought this effort together,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 11).
The project was carried out with the valued assistance of Engelbert Panil from Mount Kinabalu National Park, who helped coordinate the implementation and local engagement.
Certified instructors provided practical CPR and AED training to park rangers and personnel to ensure effective use in emergencies.
