RM14,600 in cash prizes set aside for Sibu beauty contest

Single Dayak women aged between 18 and 30 are invited to participate in the 2025 Sibu Gawai Dayak Kumang Competition.

Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu chairman Angelyn Uchi Maseng said a total of RM14,600 in cash prizes would be awarded during the contest on May 24.

“This competition is the highlight of the 2025 Sibu Pre-Gawai Dayak Dinner organised by the Sibu Gawai Dayak committee which I lead,” she said after chairing the organising committee meeting.

Also present was the event organising committee chairman Senorita Salleh.

Angelyn said the event was a collaboration with Sarawak Dayak National Union Sibu, SIDS Sibu, the Sibu Orang Ulu National Association and Sibu Dayak Bidayuh National Association.

The winner will receive RM4,000 while the runner-up (Lulong) and third-place winner (Selinggar Matahari) will receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.

All three will be presented with a crown, sash, trophy, hamper and certificate of participation.

Those who are placed fourth to 10th will each receive RM800 plus a certificate of participation.

Angelyn stipulated that participants must wear the Iban women’s traditional wear ngepan Iban.

Based on the judging criteria, half of the total marks will be accorded for beauty.

The traditional attire will earn contestants up to 30% of the score while the remaining 20% goes to posture and confidence.

“If the number of participants exceeds 10 people, a preliminary round will take place on May 17.

“The deadline for the submission of entry forms is May 16,” Angelyn added.

Entry forms can be obtained from Senorita (013-806 1265) or Claudia Dieo (014-652 6083).
