ENGINEERING student Fitrahsya Justin won the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival (BDCF) Kumang beauty contest in Sibu, Sarawak, beating out eight other contestants.
Fitrahsya, 24, who is taking a master’s degree at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, won RM2,000, a crown, trophy and hamper.
“This is my fifth time joining the Kumang competition.
“I have won twice before this – Kumang Gawai SIDS (Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak) Sibu 2016, and Kumang Ngiling Bidai Pebedas 2018,” she said.
Fitrahsya said she felt happy and blessed to win the title.
“Every time I join a competition, I will improve in the areas where I’m weak so that I can perform well,” said the part-time tutor.
At the contest, the participants were judged on their Iban “Ngepan” attire, self-confidence and beauty.Second place went to Felicia Raymond, 24, who received RM1,500 while Clarissa Rinya Setian, 18, was RM1,000 richer for coming in third.
The fourth and fifth places went to Olivia Gundi and Mesha Carlyni, who won RM500 each.
Four contestants – Caroline Lika Undi, Forleenarica Juana Juan, Selina Jagok and Beinnifren Bobby – won consolation prizes of RM200 each.
The prizes were presented by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira.
