AN unlicensed warehouse in Selangor, being used for sorting recyclable waste, has been fined and ordered to apply for licence.
Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the warehouse on Jalan Selat Selatan in Pandamaran was issued two compounds totalling RM2,000.
“Checks by the city council’s Licensing and Enforcement Department found that the business owner had been operating without the required licence.
“One compound fine was issued for not having a licence to keep a lorry and roll-on-roll-off (Roro) bins, while the other fine was issued for storing scrap and recyclable items.
“Both the compoundable fines were issued under the council’s Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Bylaws (MPK) 2007.”
Checks on the warehouse by enforcement officers was led by MBDK Licensing department legal officer Muhammad Azlan Ab Malek.
Norfiza said the business owner was warned not to take in any new consignments of recyclable waste until the necessary council licence was obtained.
However, the city council was allowing the operator to sort the existing waste as part of its efforts to support businesses that recover valuable materials and minimise the amount of rubbish sent to landfills, she said.
Meanwhile, Norfiza said checks on a rubbish separation and sorting premises in Jalan Sungai Chandong, Bandar Armada Putra in Pulau Indah, found that it was operating without a licence.
“It is a repeat offender despite MBDK having previously taken action against the operator.”
She said the Licensing department issued a notice to the operator to cease work under the Trade, Business and Industrial Licensing Bylaws (MPK) 2007, until the business was legalised.
