Keep LDP U-turn open, says Subang Jaya mayor

Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim wants the U-turn at Puchong Selatan Toll Plaza on Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) to remain open for motorists from Cyberjaya heading to Seri Kembangan.

With that in mind, he said he would be sending a letter to LDP concessionaire Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Bhd (Litrak) to discuss the matter.

Amirul Azizan said Litrak was asked not to close off the U-turn, to prevent severe congestion.

He pointed out that the closure would also be more costly for motorists heading to Taman Equine from Cyberjaya as they would have to pay toll twice if they missed the turn-off into Jalan Putra Permai.

He said Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) held a meeting with Litrak, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin and Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi@Azmi to discuss options.

“During the meeting, Litrak representatives were unwilling to consider our request not to close the U-turn,” Amirul Azizan told reporters after the city council’s full board meeting at its headquarters in USJ5.

“Litrak representatives say the closure was due to accidents, but according to our statistics, there were only three accidents per year,” said the mayor.

On March 13, Litrak announced that the U-turn at Puchong Selatan Toll Plaza would be closed from April 1.

On March 18, Abbas Salimmi took to social media to say that the highway consessionaire had only notified MBSJ and did not inform him about the planned closure.

“This is very disappointing, as previous discussions had been held to find ways to reduce congestion and one of the proposed solutions was to keep the U-turn open,” Abbas Salimmi wrote.

When approached, Litrak declined to comment. — By MEGAT SYAHAR
