The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) launched myWaqafPTPTN, a higher education endowment fund, in collaboration with Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM).
The initiative is to diversify PTPTN’s funding sources to support students through higher education scholarships.
Recently, an additional 24 students received the scholarship, with an allocation of over RM266,000.
This brings the total number of students benefitting from the myWaqafPTPTN scholarship to 82, with a total allocation exceeding RM984,000.
PTPTN chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim presented the myWaqafPTPTN scholarships to eight of the recent recipients during a PTPTN buka puasa event with the media in Kuala Lumpur.
Also present were PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, YWM chief executive officer Dr Ridzwan Bakar as well as PTPTN and YWM management representatives.
“MyWaqafPTPTN receives cash waqaf contributions from the government, corporate companies, statutory bodies, non-governmental organisations and the public, as well as legally recognised entities, both locally and internationally,” said Norliza.
“Every contribution is eligible for a tax deduction of 10% from the aggregate income under subsection 44 (11C) of the Income Tax Act 1967.
“Since its launch until last year, contributions received have exceeded RM1.188mil. Additionally, during the launch of the National Waqaf Month in February, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a contribution of RM30mil to myWaqafPTPTN in support of this programme.”
She said PTPTN was appreciative of the Prime Minister and all contributors for their generosity.
“Meanwhile, Simpan SSPN offers various benefits and privileges to depositors, including income tax relief of up to RM8,000 per year, takaful protection for depositors, a matching grant of up to RM10,000 per eligible family, competitive dividends, government-guaranteed savings and syariah-compliant financial security,” said Norliza.
In line with the government’s digitalisation efforts, she said PTPTN was encouraging the use of the myPTPTN mobile application for faster, easier and more secure transactions.
As of last Dec 31, the number of myPTPTN users reached 2.33 million.
