A STUDY is being carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to find a more feasible method of implementing parking charges in mixed-development areas.
The study, which aims to upgrade the existing parking system, is expected to be completed in June, according to a media statement by DBKL.
“Nevertheless, implementation of a new method is subject to its feasibility and alignment to the existing legal provisions being enforced.
“The current parking charges in commercial, industrial and mixed-development areas imposed by DBKL are in line with Road Transport (Provision of Parking Places) Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Order 2016,” it said in response to a StarMetro report on residents from Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park complaining about expensive parking charges in the mixed-development area.
The March 4 report titled “Residents decry frequent summonses in Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park” also highlighted residents’ frustrations over frequent parking summonses by DBKL.
City Hall urged residents to purchase the RM140 monthly parking passes that covered carparks in the suburbs.
“By purchasing the pass, residents outside the city centre only need to pay RM4.70 for parking per day, which is 55% lower than the whole day rate of RM10.50, given that the hourly rate for those without a pass is RM1,” it said.
DBKL charges for parking every day (7.30am to 6pm) except on Sundays and public holidays.
The fees are classified into three zones – city centre (RM1.50 for the first hour and RM2.50 for each subsequent hour), suburban areas with activities (RM1 per hour) and other suburban areas (80sen per hour).
The monthly parking pass can be purchased through the EZ KL Smart Park app.
