A GROUP of residents at Kampung Jawa in Klang, Selangor demonstrated community spirit during a gotong- royong event.

The 43 residents and neighbours joined forces to clear overgrown foliage, clogged drains and eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds.

Zone N49A councillor from Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Mohd Rayme Abdul Rahman stressed on the importance of shared responsibility in maintaining a healthy environment.

He observed the strong camaraderie among the participants as they worked together to rake leaves, remove debris and clear silt from drains.

Mohd Rayme encouraged residents to dispose of old pieces of wood and broken flower pots as well as remove containers that could collect stagnant water and become mosquito breeding grounds.

“I also advised villagers to compost garden refuse instead of burning it.

“I plan to get MBDK to teach the villagers about composting and related green initiatives,” he said, adding that the gotong- royong fostered a strong sense of community and helped build friendships.

MBDK Environmental Services Department director Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin said the city council assisted by providing cleaning equipment and a roll-on roll-off bin for waste collection.

Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain lauded the villagers’ dedication and emphasised the importance of community engagement.

“This is a good initiative that helps enhance the village’s general surroundings.

“I hope this initiative is replicated in other areas as part of ongoing community-driven efforts,” he said.
