Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) is exploring the tourism potential of Tanjung Harapan Esplanade and Bagan Hailam in Port Klang, Selangor.

These areas are known for their picturesque setting, beautiful sunsets and array of restaurants offering fresh seafood.

Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said MBDK has plans to revive tourism in these areas by encouraging entrepreneurs to set up booths on weekends selling handicrafts and traditional snacks.

“Both these areas have tourist potential. We plan to improve the infrastructure by providing benches and picnic tables to encourage families to spend time here with their children,” he said after launching the “Cintai Pantai Klang” programme at the Tanjung Harapan Esplanade.

Abd Hamid said the Tanjung Harapan and Bagan Hailam 2035 Action Plan covered infrastructure improvements, upgrades of utilities and public facilities, as well as economic and social community development and tourism attractions.

He said Tanjung Harapan Esplanade was popular among anglers with many coming from Shah Alam, Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya.

“Although Klang has more than 4km of coastline, there is no beach suitable for recreation except at Tanjung Harapan Esplanade. We will have the area lighted up at night and MBDK enforcement officers patrolling the area.”

Abd Hamid said the beachfront area was popular with couples for sunset views.

“We refurbished a replica of a Bugis schooner and it is featured in tourism brochures.

“Couples like using it as a backdrop for their wedding photography sessions.”

At the event, MBDK staff and locals also removed rubbish from the esplanade area.
