A poultry farm in Kampung Ladang Batu, Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat, which has been compounded three times will have to be shut down, says Selangor housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.
The Tanjung Sepat assemblyman said this followed complaints from residents there, who claimed the farm had been the source of thousands of flies.
“We had previously called all relevant agencies such as the Veterinary Services Department, local authority, Environment Department, Land Office, farmers, and representatives of the residents to meet and discuss this issue.
" It was decided (at that time) that action could be taken against farms that do not comply with regulations.
"Therefore, any farm that has been fined or compounded three times must be shut down.
"Strict action is necessary; otherwise, operators will take things lightly," he said when asked to comment on the matter affecting residents in his constituency.
He was speaking at a press conference during the reopening of the Sultan Alam Shah Museum here.
He said they had previously met with farmers and provided guidance on how poultry farm operators should maintain their facilities.
“For example, which pesticides can be used, but this was only briefly practised.
"We have no objections to farming, but they must be sensitive to the community's concerns.
"Farmers need to take into account the issues faced by the residents in that area," he said.
He said there were about 11 poultry farms in the area.
It was reported that 104 families, or about 500 households, in the village had been affected by the swarms of flies for the past three years.
