Danau Kota residents are urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to improve traffic flow around Jalan Danau Saujana to ease peak hour congestion.
Currently, the road serves two schools, a commercial zone and about five condominiums.
According to Platinum Lake PV10 Condominium resident Brenda Chong, surrounding roads, including Jalan Langkawi, Jalan Danau Saujana, Jalan Danau Saujana 1 and Jalan Danau Saujana 2 are choked with traffic during peak hours.
She called for Jalan Danau Saujana 2, currently a one-way stretch, to be converted into a two-way road to accommodate higher traffic volumes.
“There are about 800 units in my condominium and another 202 units in Residensi Vista Saujana in the same vicinity, so the road can barely cope with vehicles from these developments.
“Traffic worsens during school hours as parents pick up and drop off their children,” said Chong.
“If it is made a two-way road, motorists will have alternative access to Jalan Danau Saujana and Jalan Langkawi,” she noted.
Community activist Andre Lai said illegal parking in the area also contributed to traffic congestion.
However, DBKL could not take enforcement action against those motorists because the roads had not been officially surrendered to it, said Lai.
“As far as I know, the handover process started last year, but it has not been completed.
“So, DBKL doesn’t have jurisdiction over the roads.
“If summonses are issued or illegally parked cars towed, it risks facing legal action from the owners,” he added.
Lai said Jalan Danau Saujana 2 used to be a two-way street but was converted into a one-way stretch under a road safety project launched in December 2024 by DBKL and Global Designing Cities Initiative under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety.
The project, he said, was designed to boost road safety for schoolchildren from SK Danau Kota 2 in Jalan Danau Saujana 2.
“However, the project has contributed to traffic bottlenecks in the area,” he noted.
DBKL had not responded to queries for comments at press time.
