THE Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territories (SCAS&FT) received over RM1mil in donation for a new building that will support their various programmes and services.

The association received RM500,000 from Sunway Group while another RM500,000 was from an anonymous donor with the cheque presented by HRC Holdings Pte Ltd general manager and board member of SCAS&FT Datuk Micheal Leow.

The donations were presented at SCAS&FT's Chinese New Year celebrations held at the Dewan Teong Kim Cai of Bangunan Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Petaling Jaya.

The association is raising funds for a new building, estimated to cost RM30mil, which will be built on an empty land beside the existing building.

The proposed new building is seven-storey with one lower ground carpark. The Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territories' monthly overhead cost is RM160,000, said association president Datuk Hong Yee Keong.

The association offers free support through various services and programmes for those with cerebral palsy, and has students aged five up to 50. Hong said the association runs a special education school, vocational training sheltered workshop and a rehabilitation centre.

The festive event also saw other donors contributing to SCAS&FT to help with its operational costs -- Datuk Bijaya Diraja Dr Teong Teck Lai donated RM80,000, Selangor Turf Club chairman Tan Sri Richard Cham Hak Lim and Puan Sri Louise Cham presented RM50,000 from Equine SMG Sdn Bhd, and the Happy, Love & Care Charity Group donated RM20,000.
