Run to raise awareness, funds for children with cerebral palsy

The run is to raise funds for the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory.

This year’s edition of the Spastic Fun Run aims to raise awareness and critical funds to support children with cerebral palsy.

Some 40,000 participants are expected to take part in the 30th Spastic Fun Run, to be held on Oct 26.

All proceeds will go towards the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory (SCAS & FT) to fund its rehabilitation, educational and vocational training programmes – vital services that help children lead more independent lives, said the run’s organising chairman Datuk Jerry Ching.

The event will take place at Dataran Petaling Jaya with the participation of people from all walks of life, including those with disabilities, community groups and corporate teams.

“This is not just a run – it’s a movement of hope. We want to build a more inclusive and compassionate society,” said Ching.

He added that the event would feature three categories – 2km fun walk (wheelchair- and stroller-friendly), 5km and 10km runs.

The Spastic Fun Run is open to individuals, families, schools and corporate groups.

All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, symbolising community spirit and compassion.

“We hope the 30th anniversary will be a landmark celebration, with increased support from businesses, corporates, non-governmental organisations, and volunteers,” said Ching.

“The event also aims to serve as a fundraising platform benefitting not only SCAS & FT, but also other underserved communities,” he said.

The main sponsor of the event is KDK Fans Malaysia.

Founded in 1960, SCAS & FT is one of Malaysia’s earliest non-governmental organisations dedicated to supporting children with cerebral palsy.

Its comprehensive one-stop centre offers services such as education, life skills and vocational training, a sheltered workshop and rehabilitation therapies.
