DBKL replacing lifts at Desa Rejang flats

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is in the process of replacing the lifts at Desa Rejang Public Housing (PA) in phases.

PA Desa Rejang, in Setiawangsa, consists of 12 residential blocks ranging from 17 to 19 storeys with a total of 2,791 units.

In a media statement, DBKL said that out of 38 lifts in total, 18 were being replaced.

“Out of the 20 remaining lift units that should be operational, only 14 are functioning.

"Following a recent 'overshoot' lift incident in Block D of the flats on Dec 18, the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) ordered two out of the three lifts in that block to be closed.

“The one other lift was being replaced, which caused Block D to be without a lift until today," the statement said.

DBKL also stated that Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif visited the site on Dec 19 to meet affected residents and expedite lift replacement works.

“The contractor had applied for the inspection by DOSH for a new lift in Block D on Dec 30.

"DOSH is expected to carry out the inspection this week to issue necessary permits for installation works.

"The safety of the residents is our priority.

“We will continue to monitor developments and take stern action against any parties who fail to comply with the scheduled work plan," the statement added.
