THE walkway upgrade in Section 16, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, will only be completed next month.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the revised completion date was Jan 20.

It was previously reported that the upgrade would be completed by Nov 18.

Mohamad Zahri said the design of the walkway involved a slight incline that required custom-made light poles.

“These lights will take an additional six weeks to be completed at the factory,” he said at a press conference after a Petaling Jaya City Council building safety inspection seminar.

The works around Phileo Damansara MRT station, Jalan 16/11 and Jalan 16/15 started on July 1.

The design features a 500m walkway stretching from the traffic light intersection of Jalan 17/1 and Jalan 16/11 to Phileo Damansara 2 commercial area.

Some of its features include bollards to keep pedestrians safe from vehicles, a zebra crossing at the entrance of Phileo Damansara 1 and lights under an overhead ramp.
