TO encourage public transport usage, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has upgraded a 300m walkway along Jalan Kasipillay to Sentul Barat MRT Station.

Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) Kampung Kasipillay chairman Victor Joseph said residents were happy that the covered footpath now provided shelter from rain and sun to complete their first- and last-mile journey to the station.

“The residents previously highlighted the need for a sheltered walkway connecting the neighbourhood to the station due to unpredictable weather.

“Now they can enjoy a more comfortable journey and we hope this encourages more people to take the train,” he said.

The walkway also includes a perimeter fence for safety.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne said the walkway upgrade was the first phase of an infrastructure project to provide a more comfortable and safe environment for pedestrians.

“Lights are being installed and it is expected to be completed by May 26.

“It costs about RM300,000 and funds are allocated by the Housing and Local Government Ministry,” Yap said during a press conference at the site.

She added that the second phase of the project involved upgrading of a pedestrian walkway from the Jalan Kasipillay and Jalan Pakis junction to the MRT station.

“Currently, DBKL is in the midst of finalising the project details.
