Meet furry friends, fulfil animal welfare group’s Christmas wishlist in PJ tomorrow

WITH over 400 dogs to care for while facing a shrinking donor pool, canine welfare organisation Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) is finding ways to make ends meet.

“We also have 12 workers to pay as well as utility bills and other miscellaneous expenses every month,’’ said MDDB founding director Irene Low.

Given this, MDDB has lined up several plans and events to stay afloat.

“We have drawn-up a wishlist. We are asking for essentials such as mosquito coils, rice and kibbles as Christmas gifts for our dogs,’’ said Low.

Well-wishers can meet some of the dogs and place their gifts at the foot of a Christmas tree from 3pm to 8pm tomorrow at 17, Jalan SS3/46, Petaling Jaya.

“We hope our well-wishers will once again bless MDDB during this festive season by visiting us this Sunday,’’ she added.

According to Low, MDDB also plans to hold a jumble sale in March next year to raise funds to pay off its debts.

“We are looking for various pre-loved items that we can sell; clothes in good condition, shoes, bags, decorative items, costume jewellery and household goods,’’ she said.

Donors can drop off pre-loved items at the same venue on the same day.

Low hopes, however, that people would not unload on MDDB old clothes and chipped glassware as what happened during a previous collection.

Low said MDDB was also looking at promoting its sponsorship programme where well-wishers could sponsor dogs under its care on a monthly basis.

“The monthly sponsorship amount is RM100 for able-bodied dogs and RM150 for disabled dogs. One dog can have several sponsors at one time,’’ she said.
