Two tonnes of Harumanis mangoes from Perlis were snapped up by Klang Valley consumers during the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority’s (Fama) “Jualan Agro Madani” in Selangor.

Known for its strong aroma and sweet creamy flesh, the seasonal Harumanis is widely regarded as one of Perlis’ signature agricultural products.

The fruit was sold at a promotional price of RM100 per 3kg box, while discounts were also offered on other products, including fresh chicken at RM10 each, local beef at RM25 per kg and Sarawak Crystal Longan at RM15 per kg.

Harumanis pulut kucai (sweet glutinous rice) and vegetables were also distributed free to visitors.

The event at Fama headquarters in Selayang was graced by Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Fama director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri said the sale provided a platform to promote premium Perlis products to Klang Valley consumers while strengthening the national food security agenda.

He said it also supported the development of a more sustainable local agro-marketing ecosystem while expanding the market reach of entrepreneurs.

“The Agro Madani sales programme not only helps the public obtain essential goods and fresh agro-food products at lower prices, but also opens more market opportunities for local entrepreneurs to increase their income through direct-to-consumer sales.

“Fama will continue to expand the implementation of the programme nationwide to ensure more people enjoy price savings while helping entrepreneurs improve their competitiveness and income,” he added.

Fama in a statement said the Agro Madani sales programme was among the government’s initiatives to ease living costs through direct sales from producers to consumers.

Since its introduction in 2023, the programme has grown nationwide.

In 2025, Fama organised 4,695 such events, generating RM101mil in sales and RM30.3mil in consumer savings, benefitting nearly 27.58 million households.

The Selayang edition featured 46 sales lots involving 30 entrepreneurs.
