SHAH Alam City Council (MBSA) brought cheer to several underprivileged Hindu folk by assisting them with their Deepavali preparations.

Under its “Program Sumbangan Prihatin”, MBSA presented the contributions to 50 recipients.

They included those from the B40 group, senior citizens, single mothers and persons with disabilities living in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Each person received RM100 cash plus a hamper of groceries worth RM150 that included rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar and spices.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim presented the contributions at an event held at Dewan Bunga Kertas MBSA in TTDI Jaya, Section U2.

“This programme is held to provide contributions to underprivileged people from the Hindu community, in hopes of lightening their burden ahead of Deepavali,” MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Department director Mohd Azhar Mohd Sharif said in a statement.

“This contribution is also part of a programme by MBSA to strengthen ties between the council and the community.

“In addition, we hope that this contribution can promote social responsibility awareness among Shah Alam residents to assist those in need.”

He added that the programme was also in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) as well as Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16).
