HOUSEHOLDS earning below RM5,000 a month can now apply for financial aid from the state government via Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas).

Previously, only households earning below RM3,000 a month were eligible to apply.

Selangor women, family empowerment, welfare and care economy committee chairman Anfaal Saari said the new requirement, which took effect this month, would aid families who were financially strapped.

“Households can apply for the annual financial aid of RM3,600 from now until Aug 15, this year through Selangor government’s SELangkah App or via the website – www.bingkasselangor.com

“Successful applicants will see Bingkas aid of RM300 a month that will be given for 24 months,” she said at a press conference held at the State Secretariat in Shah Alam.

She said the aid given could be used to buy basic food necessities, medicines and educational materials.

“Bingkas initiative involves an allocation of RM108mil that targets 30,000 applicants.

“It is one of the biggest financial aid programmes compared to other states,” she added.

Anfaal said certain requirements, such as the applicant must have two dependants below the age of 18, had been added to ensure that it would benefit the target group.

“We ensure that it benefits locals, registered Selangor voters and those who have lived here more than 10 years, or were born in the state.

“Bingkas will be able to uplift the hardcore poor,” she said.

Successful applicants will receive their financial aid through Wavpay eWallet.
