Assemblyman demands probe into PJD Link revival

A SELECT committee under the Selangor State Assembly has been asked to look into the controversial Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) Expressway project.

Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran said he had requested a full investigation by the state’s Special Committee on Water Management, Agriculture, Infrastructure, and Mobility (JPK Infragro).

The project was discontinued in April but may now be back on the board.

“I want to find out what transpired,” he said during a community gathering at the Section 14 Rukun Tetangga Hall in Petaling Jaya.

On July 4, Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim said that PJD Link, was among seven highway projects under consideration in Selangor.

Rajiv is seeking access to all documents leading to the project’s re-emergence.

“I want to see the documents regarding this highway.

“I hope Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chen Chung will also get the relevant details from the Parliamentary Select Committee.

“Only then can we compare the information and see if there are discrepancies, including who is actively pushing for the project,” he said.

He also called for a Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting in the next few weeks emphasising that “the project cannot be approved in secrecy.”

Rajiv said the PJD Link was at the early stages of planning, adding that objections could still be made.

On April 17, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the project was discontinued as its developer failed to meet conditions.

However during the Selangor State Assembly sitting last week, Izham said the PJD Link developer had made changes to the alignment in Petaling Jaya, based on the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and objections from the public.

JPK-Infragro chairman Michelle Ng said he received Rajiv’s request for a formal investigation.

The community gathering, initially planned as a celebration of PJD Link’s cancellation, transformed into a renewed discussion on the highway’s future.

Residents said they preferred improved public transportation over a toll-centric highway.
