Selangor government to decide on future of PJD Link Project

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor state government has been reminded of their promise made in the run-up to the State Elections last year to cancel the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) Expressway project.

"The ball is now in the court of the State Government to decide whether this project will be implemented or not," said Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung.

He said, after attending a briefing session held by the Special Select Committee (SSC) on Infrastructure, Transport & Communication on Thursday (Nov 28) morning.

"I was informed in the briefing earlier that the Cabinet Meeting agreed on May 8, 2024, to allow PJD Link (M) Sdn Bhd to present a counter-proposal for a new highway alignment.

"The ball is now in the court of the State Government to decide whether this project will be implemented or not.

"Any attempt to gain approval through retail amendments is an insult to policymakers and the people," he said during a press conference in Parliament (media room) on Thursday.

According to Lee, as the cancellation of the PJD Link project will not impose any costs on the people, this situation presents the perfect opportunity for the Selangor Government to fulfil their promise.

Lee further emphasised the need for the government at all levels to strengthen public transport, resolve end-to-end access issues, and formulate sustainable and low-carbon development plans immediately.

The proposed 14.9km PJD Link, intended to alleviate traffic congestion in Petaling Jaya by connecting Bandar Utama to Bukit Jalil, had faced severe objections from residents.

Despite initial approval by the previous federal government in April 2022, the project, estimated to cost over RM2bil, was halted on April 17 due to the concessionaire's failure to meet six of the 11 conditions.
