Madani agriculture aid benefits 435 farmers in Mukah

Farmers from seven villages along Sungai Tellian, in the Dalat district capital of Mukah in Sarawak, welcomed stocks of fertilisers and herbicides from the government for their crops.

The aid was distributed by the Lanang DAP parliamentary service centre from neighbouring Sibu district.

The first distribution of the Madani Agricultural Aid programme started in 2022.

The 2023 distribution was divided into two batches totalling 67 bags.

This year, new applicants will receive assistance before distribution to previous beneficiaries in the second half of 2024.

Like last year, some recipients used wheelbarrows to transport the bags, while others collectively hired lorries.

However, some farmers continued to use their own cars or motorcycles to transport the bags to their farms.

According to Lanang MP Alice Lau, 435 farmers benefitted from the first round of fertiliser and herbicide distribution.

She expressed confidence that farmers would continue to benefit in the second round of the programme.

“This aid is to reduce the burden of farmers in producing crops.

“After all, the prices of everything are rising and the pressure of life is increasing day by day,” she said.
