Kuching to host 1,400 Para Sukma athletes

THE 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) in Sarawak will welcome the participation of 1,400 athletes.

The athletes are from all states in the country.

Sarawak Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said Para Sukma would take place from Sept 20 to 29 – a month after Sukma.

“All 10 Para Sukma sports will be held in Kuching, namely athletics at the Sarawak Stadium, swimming at the Pandalela Rinong Aquatic Centre and badminton at the Sarawak Badminton Association Hall BDC.

“Table tennis at SJK Chung Hua and bowling at Megalanes E-Mart Batu Kawa.

“Boccia will be held at the Sarawak Basketball Association Hall, lawn bowls at the Petra Jaya Multipurpose Arena, powerlifting at the Youth and Sports Department Multipurpose Hall, archery at the Petra Jaya Archery Range and chess at Raia Hotel,” she said.

According to Fatimah, Sarawak contingent is expected to send 240 athletes who will undergo selection on July 31, and 120 officials.

She also said three official ceremonies would be held in conjunction with Para Sukma.

The Para Sukma Dinner will be at Hikmah Exchange on Sept 21 with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as guest of honour.

“The opening ceremony of Para Sukma XXI Sarawak is at Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya on Sept 22 and will be launched by Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar,” said Fatimah.

The closing ceremony of Para Sukma XXI Sarawak at Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya is on Sept 28 will be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
