THREE flyovers estimated to cost more than RM300mil have been proposed to ease chronic congestion in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam in Selangor.
The proposed flyovers, all along Persiaran Anggerik Mokara, are part of the Shah Alam Traffic Management Master Plan, a long-term strategy to improve traffic flow in the city.
State infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim (pic) said construction of one of the flyovers at the Persiaran Anggerik Mokara roundabout was expected to start by next year.
He said traffic studies conducted by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) found that several key junctions in Kota Kemuning, including Persiaran Anggerik Mokara, experienced heavy congestion during peak hours.
“The traffic master plan evaluated existing traffic conditions and projected traffic demand up to 2035.
“Based on the findings, the long-term proposal is to construct flyovers at selected junctions and roundabouts to improve traffic flow,” Izham said during the Selangor State Assembly at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.
He said construction of the flyovers would cost an estimated RM304.96mil, including about RM6mil in consultancy fees.
The project’s high cost, he said, meant the remaining two flyovers could not proceed at this stage due to budget constraints.
Izham was responding to Preakas Sampunathan (PH-Kota Kemuning), who asked whether the state government had carried out a traffic impact assessment (TIA) in Kota Kemuning, key findings, follow-up actions, and the implementation status and timeline for proposed projects.
In a supplementary question, Preakas asked what short-term measures could be taken to ease congestion, as access to Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) and Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA) remained limited.
Izham said MBSA was implementing short-term mitigation measures, including optimising junction layouts, adjusting traffic signal timings and improving overall traffic flow, while continuing to seek funding for longer-term infrastructure upgrades.
