A CANCER survivor’s positive outlook has helped her live a good life for over 23 years.

Norlila Simon, 62, said she was forced to quit her job as a security officer at a factory after being diagnosed with cancer in 2000.

“Instead of letting cancer defeat me, I faced it head-on by staying calm and positive by staying physically active and enjoying fishing trips with my nieces and nephews,” she said.

“I feel that my resilience and optimism have kept my cancer in remission for the past 23 years.”

Norlila was one of 100 recipients of food necessities sponsored by developer M Summit Group at the Kampung Binjai mosque in Batu Maung, Penang.

The corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort, carried out in collaboration with Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathir Aziz’s service centre, was aimed at supporting those in need.

Norlila, in expressing her gratitude, explained how the aid had helped her save money.

Each bag was filled with items such as dates, packets of ketupat, biscuits, cooking oil, salt, sugar, snacks and noodles.

Sopian Budin, a 56-year-old retiree, said he appreciated the timely assistance.

M Summit Group managing director Datuk Albert Moh said the initiative was aimed at easing recipients’ financial burden while ensuring they had nutritious meals.

He said the effort aligned with the company’s values of giving back to the community.

Moh and Azrul presented each resident with two goodie bags containing the items.

Also present were Kampung Binjai Village Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman Basseri Hashim, Kampung Seronok MPKK chairman Syed Saberi Syed Amirudin, and Kampung Binjai mosque chairman Ramli Ali. — By BERNARD SEE
