FESTIVE crafts, gifts and duit Raya, all in the company of a crown prince, made an event very exciting for over 100 children from four orphanages across Selangor.

The event was part of Sunway Group’s corporate social responsibility initiative, #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan, which aims to touch the lives of the underprivileged across Johor, Perak, Penang, Selangor and Terengganu during Ramadan.

Gracing the celebration was Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who emphasised the significance of community and generosity during Ramadan.

Sunway Group deputy chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim said the initiative was making its fourth stop in Selangor and on track to reach almost 4,000 underprivileged beneficiaries nationwide by the end of the month.

The initiative was organised in collaboration with Selangor Youth Community, the National Welfare Foundation and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF).

The Selangor leg of the initiative alsobrought together celebrity chef Datuk Ismail Ahmad and Akademi Fantasia fame Bob Yusof, both of whom are MAF Red Ribbon Celebrity Supporters.

Ismail and Bob prepared Superior Braised Chicken Mushroom with Fragrant Garlic Rice, a star creation of Ismail’s and the centrepiece of Sunway Resort Hotel’s buka puasa spread.

“Today’s event reminds us to observe Ramadan with compassion, by looking after the underprivileged communities’ needs,” said Malaysian AIDS Foundation chairman Prof Datuk Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman.

She was among guests and volunteers who engaged in activities with the children gathered at Rumah Amal Raudhatul Jannah in Kuala Langat, Selangor.

The other three participating orphanages were Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Darul Ehsan Malaysia, Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim Miskin Daerah Kuala Langat and Sekolah KAFA Integrasi As-Syariff.

The #SunwayforGood Sinar Ramadan initiative will make its final stop in Dungun, Terengganu, at Baitul Cakna Lelaki Jambu Bongkok, before concluding with a Raya Open House in Sunway Resort Hotel on April 24.

In the presence of Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, the open house will treat over 300 children from several orphanages with lively performances, entertaining games and a scrumptious hotel buffet.

In conjunction with Sunway’s 50th anniversary, its CSR initiatives this year will include building or refurbishing 50 libraries, raising funds for five welfare homes and donating 2,000,000 meals for the poor.
