Faulty school roofs finally repaired after two years

THE two-year wait to have two roofs repaired at SK Kampung Tunku in Petaling Jaya, Selangor is finally over.

This is thanks to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) trust fund that subsidised the 48-year-old primary school’s new skylight and library roofs.

Area councillor Ong Yew Thai and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei helped the school receive RM126,800 for its new infrastructure through MBPJ.

Installation of the new skylight roof between two blocks – previously broken in several places – and repairs for the library roof were the school’s biggest projects.

In a press conference, Lim also presented a RM7,000 cheque to Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) chairman Wan Huzaini Wan Hussin for future projects.

SK Kampung Tunku headmistress Rosmawati Mat Som said renovations at the school provided a safer environment for pupils.

Wan Huzaini, however, said the renovations had taken slightly longer than expected, and they took advantage of the school holidays to complete the works.

SK Kampung Tunku, which opened in 1976, currently has an enrolment of 1,300 pupils with 77 teachers.

“We are thankful to MBPJ for responding to Zone 20 councillor Ong’s application quickly, and ensuring that our pupils have a safe environment,” he added.
