PRE-LOVED clothes have been distributed to the underprivileged in Sarawak under the “Infak Baju Raya Al Bait” project, to enable them to have a better Hari Raya celebration.
Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said more than 2,200 locals had benefited from the programme.
He said the project was initiated by Yayasan Kepimpinan Al Bait (YKAB) and run in collaboration with TBS.
Abang Mohd Shibli said the project was well supported by the community since its introduction and had been expanded to other areas in the state.
“The response from the community has been excellent.
“So far, we have distributed a total of 12,700 sets of clothes to needy families who have benefited from this programme across Sarawak, including in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Mukah,” he said, during an iftar (breaking of fast) event at the Sibu Islamic Complex.
The project enables the needy to get better clothes including baju kurung and tudung among others for the upcoming festival.
Abang Mohd Shibli called on the public, especially the Muslim community, to donate clothes which were still in good condition to YKAB.
“In Sibu, we have the Ummah Distribution Centre and we have representatives from YKAB here. They can assist in storing and ensuring the clothes can be distributed,” he said. – By ANDY CHUA
