THE much awaited road repair project along Lorong 7B and Lorong 7B5 off Jalan Jerrwit, Sibu will start soon, at a cost of RM220,000.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek described the project as a Chinese New Year gift to the people of the area.
The financing for the road project was drawn from the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) fund.
“This project was originally planned to be implemented in 2023 but was shelved due to unavoidable problems.
“So this project will start soon,” he said, while handing over the road repair contract to his service team.
Chieng said residents had repeatedly reported to him the problems of frequent flooding in the area, causing the road to sink.
He said the problem of water retention in the area caused by heavy rain, not only made daily life difficult but also made driving dangerous.
“Given the urgency of the situation, I urge the contractors to cooperate and complete the road repair work as soon as possible.”
Chieng said, according to the Sibu Municipal Council’s Engineering Section report, the road had been levelled with gravel and was now entering the paving stage with tar.
“I also appeal to the residents to help monitor the progress of the project.
“If you have any doubts or queries, you can report them to me at any time,” he said.
