SIBU: A 27-year-old man was sentenced by the Sessions Court to nine years’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting his nine-year-old nephew.
The accused, from Selangau, pleaded guilty on Tuesday (Jan 27) before Judge Musyiri Peet.
According to the charge, the incident occurred last December at a rented house in Lorong Sentosa Barat 2.
Based on the facts of the case, the victim informed her mother on Jan 9 at around 6pm that her uncle had molested her at the location in question. A police report was subsequently filed to enable an investigation.
On Jan 15, at about 7pm, police arrested the accused on Jalan Central after receiving information regarding the case. The investigation confirmed that the accused had committed a sexual assault on the victim as alleged.
In sentencing, Judge Musyiri ordered the prison sentence to run from the date of the accused's arrest.
In addition, the accused, who was not represented by a solicitor, was ordered to undergo counselling sessions throughout his imprisonment and to be placed under police supervision for two years after completing his sentence.
