PETALING JAYA: The Home Ministry continues to strengthen cooperation among enforcement agencies to detect threats, dismantle criminal networks, secure the country’s borders and uphold the integrity of personnel entrusted with national security.
Its minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said national security was not the responsibility of a single agency and could not be measured solely by the success of any one operation.
He said each agency under the ministry had its own role, but all were working towards the same goal of ensuring that the people could live in a peaceful and safe country.
Recalling several achievements by agencies under his ministry, Saifuddin said the police force’s intelligence and investigative capabilities had led to the uncovering of a cannabis smuggling syndicate involving drugs worth RM33.4mil.
He said the Immigration Department had not only detained 59 undocumented migrants but also disrupted the transportation network facilitating the activity.
In the country’s waters, he said the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency continued to strengthen border control, including by detaining a vessel carrying 36 Indonesian nationals.
“Whether on land or at sea, every entry point into the country must continue to be monitored and defended,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 26).
Saifuddin said enforcement strength was not measured solely by the number of arrests or the value of seizures, but also depended on the integrity of personnel entrusted with their duties.
“That is why I appreciate the courage of personnel from the police, Immigration Department and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency who choose to report or reject bribery,” he said.
He said these efforts reflected the ministry’s security network, which was being built and strengthened every day through threat detection, the disruption of criminal networks, enhanced border control and the preservation of integrity.
“Various agencies, with different responsibilities, but one common goal, a safe Malaysia for the people,” he said.
