Several parts of Klang lashed by three-hour storm

SEVERAL areas in Klang were hit by three hours of heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday.

During the incident that started at 4pm, trees were uprooted while homes were flooded above ankle level.

In Taman Chi Liung, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Bandar Botanic and Taman Bayu Perdana, drains were overwhelmed, resulting in water overflowing onto roads and homes.

According to Klang Municipal Council’s (MPK) Quick Response Team (Pantas), trees fell on several parked cars along roads in Kampung Pendamar and Bandar Bukit Tinggi.

An MPK staff member said the rain subsided around 7pm.

“Our Pantas team worked past midnight to clear the fallen trees,” he said.

Owners of the flooded homes were mostly at work while others were stuck in a traffic snarl along the Federal Highway due to the thunderstorm.

On returning home, they had to immediately start the arduous task of cleaning their car porch and kitchen.

Several residents in Taman Chi Liung told StarMetro that it was time MPK widened the drains to accommodate the high volume of surface runoff.

“It is frustrating having to clean up after coming back from work,” said resident Tan Ai Ming, 33. — By EDWARD RAJENDRA
