FOUR new sites in Kuala Lumpur have been gazetted as green and public open spaces, bringing the total number to 543.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the gazetted sites include two open spaces in Jalan Damai Puspa in Alam Damai, as well as a playground and a community hall in Persiaran Lemak in Taman Segar, Cheras.
"The gazettement has long been requested by residents to ensure that the areas remain as public amenities that can be enjoyed by all.
"Previously, some 494 areas were gazetted as green and public open spaces on Feb 5, with 45 more being gazetted on April 15.
"The full list of the gazetted sites can be viewed at the official website of the Federal Territories Lands and Mines Office," she said during a walkabout at the playground in Taman Segar on May 7.
Yeoh also said a special task force had been formed to protect green spaces in the city.
"The task force will work to gazette as many green spaces and parks as possible so that senior citizens have a space to exercise," she said.
Also present were Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai and Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.
Tan said the gazettement of the playground and community hall in Taman Segar can protect the facilities from development.
"Residents had been worried that the facilities would be turned into high-rises.
"The Prime Minister's Office has also approved a RM50,000 allocation to upgrade drains in Taman Segar," he added.
Fadlun said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will amend the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan (PTKL) 2040 to ensure that the gazetted spaces remain green.
