THE 265 households in Pelawan constituency, Sarawak, affected by the April 6, 2023, freak storm have received RM1,000 each.

Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang Ming Tee said, “The aid was given to help them overcome losses suffered in the natural disaster.”

Tiang, who is also Sarawak Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, said such natural disasters also affected some in Bukit Assek and Nangka, which hadn’t happened in decades.

Tiang said he and other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) representatives had pledged to help residents apply for the aid.

“I am so glad we have accomplished our mission.

“I thank Pelawan residents who have been patient, waiting for me to work out the procedure to apply (for the aid) from Sarawak government,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to all who helped collect information and ensure aid was distributed to victims.

On another matter, Tiang said resolving the irrigation system problem in Pelawan was his top priority in 2024, followed by road development.

He called for residents’ support in ensuring all planned projects in the area would be successfully implemented.

“I need your support and patience so that we can make this happen.

“Trust me, Pelawan, year by year will get better. This is my promise,” he added.

Tiang also urged Pelawan residents to come to his service centre in Sungai Merah if they had any issues they needed help in.

The service centre is open from 8am until 5pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.

It is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

“You can call 012-760 9822 or visit the centre during operating hours,” he said, adding that community leaders and staff were stationed at the centre.
