KLANG Municipal Council president Noraini Roslan has received the Local Government Development Ministry's Local Council Leadership Excellence Award 2023.

She was among finalists that included three municipal councils from Selangor; Kuala Langat, Hulu Selangor and Kajang.

Aside from the three in Selangor, the Port Dickson Municipal Council from Negeri Sembilan was also in the running.

Speaking after the event at the St. Regis Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (Nov 11) evening, MPK acting deputy council president Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin said Noraini deserved the award presented by Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Zaireezal said that Noraini had proactively implemented an environmental leadership that focused on cutting down the carbon footprint through Klang’s Car Free Day, encouraging public transportation by using the free bus service and recycling.

On the award, Noraini told StarMetro that it is a win for all MPK employees and the people of Klang.

“We take this seriously and work hard for it. It is part of who we are as a community. We must have foresight on sustainable transportation, community advancement, and build the environment not just for quality of life but to create a livable space,” she said.

Noraini added she hoped her legacy is going to be that she was able to promote good ideas and “then move aside and let good people do their jobs”.
