ALL recreational parks in Pelawan constituency, Sibu will be upgraded in stages according to residents’ specific needs, says its assemblyman Michael Tiang.

Tiang, who is also Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister, said the requirements for residential areas in the constituency differed as some nighbourhoods were home to a significant older population, while others were populated mostly by younger folk.

“Each community park has unique demands, with some focusing on children’s playgrounds and others catering to the preferences of adults and senior citizens.

“We will conduct surveys and engage with the community to identify their specific needs,” he said when met by reporters at Pelawan Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at Rejang Park Traffic Garden.

Tiang said the importance of enhancing park facilities was not only for physical exercise but for fostering community and social interaction too.

“We want residents to come together and engage in recreational activities like playing chess, as in the past, and socialise without electronic gadgets,” he said.

Tiang also said parks on Lim Han Swee Road, Wawasan Road and Cherry Road were being upgraded.

“The upgrading projects on Sena Road and Melur Road are currently underway.

“We have also identified new areas for the construction of community parks.

“For this purpose (upgrading parks), we have allocated RM1mil since the project started last year,” he added.
