KUALA Kubu Baharu resident Chng Boon Lai, 64, says his decision to run for the state seat is to serve the people better.

The father of three, who is also a grandfather, said he had received many complaints from residents who were not pleased with the incumbent assemblyman whom they claimed was not effective.

Chng is the Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) candidate for Kuala Kubu Baharu, Selangor.

“If given the chance, my doors will always be open to the public. Many people here even know my house in KKB.

“As a retiree, I always have time as my children are grown up and I would have more time for the people,” he said.

To show he means business, Chng has opened a service centre to help residents.

His service centre, which will be open until Aug 11, is located at Lot 1005, Jalan Rasa-Ampang Pecah in Taman Kampung Melayu Rasa Tambahan Phase 2.

A long-time resident of Kampung Asam Kumbang, Chng was the former DAP head for the village. He was also Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) councillor from 2009 to 2013.

“I had wanted to resign from DAP since 2018 because I felt that I was not appreciated and wanted to better serve the people.

“On July 28, I resigned and PRM offered me a chance to stand in Kuala Kubu Baharu.”

Chng is in a four- cornered fight with Lee Kee Hiong (PH-DAP), Henry Teoh Kien Hong (PN-Gerakan) and Dr Siva Prakash Ramasamy (Muda).

During GE14, Pakatan candidate Lee won with a majority of 7,134.

Lee got 14,101 votes while Barisan candidate Wong Koon Mun had 6,967 votes and Naharudin Abdul Rashid from PAS had 3,306 votes.
