A total of 14,768 workers in Selangor lost their jobs as of July 10 this year, according to statistics from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
State human resources and poverty eradication committee chairman V. Papparaidu (pic) said from the total, 4,263 had secured new employment through various job-matching initiatives and labour market interventions carried out by PERKESO in collaboration with relevant agencies.
“The Selangor government, through strategic cooperation with PERKESO, remains committed to strengthening interventions to help jobseekers who have yet to obtain employment,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly sitting in Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam on Tuesday (Aug 4).
He was replying to a question from Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim (PH- Kota Damansara) on job availability in Selangor.
Among the measures being implemented, said Papparaidu, are profiling and job-matching sessions through the MYFutureJobs portal to identify suitable employment opportunities based on jobseekers' qualifications, experience and skills.
He said the government was also offering upskilling and reskilling programmes to improve employability in line with current industry requirements.
In addition, the state is organising the JobCare Selangor Career Carnival and Mega JobCare Selangor as platforms to bring together employers and jobseekers through open interviews, job-matching and career guidance services.
The government, through PERKESO, was also providing several incentives to individuals who had lost their jobs to help them re-enter the labour market.
These include job search allowance, reduced income allowance, training allowance and funding for training fees for eligible individuals.
“Jobseekers could also access training and professional certification programmes as well as continuous career guidance, CV reviews, interview preparation and job-matching services through MYFutureJobs and JobCare Selangor,” said Papparaidu.
