DID spent RM1.1mil in 2022 on flood mitigation works in Taman Kinrara, says incumbent rep

PUCHONG: With the completion of a flood mitigation project late last year in Taman Kinrara Section 1, flash floods in that Puchong neighbourhood will hopefully be a thing of the past.

"The Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) spent RM1.1mil to raise the river bund at Sungai Kuyoh," said incumbent Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han.

"The project was completed within nine months, ending in November last year. This is the first flood mitigation project to be completed in Selangor after the massive floods in December 2021.”

Ng said most of Taman Kinrara Section 1 and a portion of Taman Kinrara Section 2 were badly affected by major floods that hit the neighbourhood twice within three months.

"These areas had never seen such serious floods in over 30 years, but were suddenly hit in Dec 2021 and March 2022," he said.

"This was due to the overflow of water from both Sungai Klang and Sungai Kuyoh. The flood water went up to chest level and affected more than 1,000 houses."

Ng added that the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit post-flood aid by the state government had been fully distributed before the Selangor election, with each house receiving RM1,000.

He was speaking during a press conference at the Taman Kinrara morning market in Taman Kinrara Section 1, Puchong.

"Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) recently completed an infrastructure upgrade project here, under the Projek Selangor Penyayang initiative," said Ng.

"Jalan Taman Kinrara is the main road connecting residents here and it is also where morning market visitors will park their cars.

"The road shoulder where cars were parked was previously made from dirt and pebbles, and parking space was limited.

"The project saw the road shoulder being upgraded and tarred. So now the structure is safer and visitors have more space to park," he said, adding that the upgrade cost RM100,000.

Zone 11 MBSJ councillor Pravin Murali said MBSJ would monitor the project post-upgrade to ensure the site remained organised.

Ng said a total of seven projects were implemented under Projek Selangor Penyayang in the Kinrara constituency, with the others comprising installation of an anti-climb fence near a school and construction of walkways in several neighbourhoods.

The Kinrara state seat would see a straight fight between Ng (PH-DAP) and Wong Yong Kang (PN-Bersatu) in the Selangor election.

Ng is seeking a third term, after winning Kinrara in the 2018 General Election (with a 45,212 majority) and 2013 General Election (14,604 majority).
