MORE bus commuters can enjoy the RM1 flat rate for the trunk service sector in Sarawak.

The RM1 flat rate is currently available for the Sibu-Belawai (67km), Sibu-Tanjung Manis (57km), Sibu-Sarikei (39km) and Sibu-Mukah (156km) routes.

Sarawak Bus Transport Company Association advisor Lau Khing Seng said it had applied to the state transport ministry to implement a similar flat rate for the Sibu-Song (88km) and Sibu-Kapit (128km) routes.

“We are still waiting for approval,” said Lau.

Sarawak Dayak Iban Association permanent chairman Munan Laja had urged the ministry to consider implementing the RM1 flat rate for the two routes.

He said the RM16 (Sibu-Song) and RM22 (Sibu-Kapit) fare was too high for the B40 group.

Meanwhile, Lau appealed to the ministry to fast-track the construction of a bus terminal for Kapit.

SETTING THE STAGE FOR ENERGY ASIA

“As we do not have a bus terminal in Kapit, bus commuters have been complaining of being exposed to the heat and rain,” he said.

He added that the Sibu-Kapit-Sibu service has been operating since Jan 1, 2022, with good response from the public.

“We are still using an open space in front of a shophouse about 3km from Kapit town centre as our operation centre.

“We started to talk about the need for a bus terminal in 2016 but until now, nothing has been done about it,” he said.

Lau hopes that Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi will look into the request.
