THREE 17-year-old students from SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth, Penang, did the nation proud by winning 26 gold and seven silver medals at the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) in Doha, Qatar.

The three, Bak Yu Zhe, Mah Sengzi and Wallace Tan Ying Shen, displayed remarkable teamwork to achieve success on the international stage.

In April, they won the WSC regional round in Penang with 30 gold and three silver medals, earning them a place in the global round.

The school said the WSC attracted participation from 30 countries with 1,800 scholars competing in the grand event, and the SMJK Chung Ling trio were the only team to represent Malaysia in the prestigious competition.

“The intellectual meet brought together participants from the US, Canada, Nepal, Turkiye, Maldives and various countries from the Middle East and Africa,” said the school.

The young scholars participated in quiz bowls, collaborative writing, team debates and other academic challenges, including engaging competitions covering diverse subjects such as science, technology, history, social science, the arts, current affairs, literature and films. — By R. SEKARAN
