Uplifting makeover for Sg Nibong bus terminal

Sungai Nibong express bus terminal is expected to undergo a makeover this year.

LIFTS for the special needs community will be upgraded at the Sungai Nibong express bus terminal, said Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Lee Wei Seang.

The upgrade is part of a larger makeover for the bus terminal, which Lee said would include the installation of ticket machines, construction of escalators, expansion on the second floor and better parking space arrangement.

“We expect works to be completed within this year,” he said, adding that the upgrades would also look into the needs of the disabled.

“The upgrading plan will see more convenience stores on the second floor.

“The washrooms and the existing waiting area will be refurbished, too,” Lee told Buletin Mutiara.

He said a contractor had been appointed for the project and the premises would be brightened up once the bus terminal upgrade was complete.

Met at the bus terminal, G. Dhanajeyam, 74, said he hoped the city council could improve cleanliness at the building.

“Escalators must be added while authorities should also look into a more conducive and cleaner environment at the terminal as Penang is one of the top tourism destinations,” he said.

Express bus ticket seller Suhaimi Mohd Nasir, 32, hoped more boarding stations would be built.

“The authorities should look into the needs of the disabled as well as ensuring better accessibility for them,” he said.
