GEORGE TOWN: Penang reveals a draft master plan to transform 23.4 hectares in Sungai Nibong into a transit-oriented development anchored by the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit station on Thursday (July 30).
The proposed project redevelops the former Pesta grounds, surrounding areas, and the interstate bus terminal into a mixed-use hub for homes, offices, and commercial spaces.
The development plan incorporates elevated walkways, cycling lanes, an elevated pedestrian ring, a 5.5-hectare Pesta Park, a sports complex, and government offices.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stated full implementation of the long-term plan will take 10 to 15 years.
The site is projected to house approximately 3,600 residents and support 38,000 workers upon completion.
The draft master plan remains open for public consultation until finalisation in October.
