SMK Jit Sin students planted 500 seedlings and learned about hydroponic gardening at the Eco-School Sustainability Programme by Flex Penang’s Agro One (A1) Club.
Flex Penang sponsored 20 hydroponics towers, each holding 60 plants, for the programme at the school.
The A1 Club was established to educate students and involve organisations on agricultural and climate change issues.
Flex Penang general manager EC Tang said: “The company drives sustainability practices to address the environmental and social challenges of our world through strategic investments in the communities we serve.
“We also encourage our employees to do volunteer work.”
The programme was carried out in collaboration with the Seberang Prai City Council and the police.
Present were police officers, the school’s management board chairman Datuk Ng Joon Tong and director Datuk Tan Buck Lai, Parent-Teacher Association chairman Yap Kim Gui and school senior administrative assistant Sim An Thea.
Flex Penang has launched several environmental programmes this year at other schools such as SJK (C) Seng Keow and SMK Convent Butterworth by providing them with hydroponic DIY kits.
