Flash floods hit KL after evening storm

PETALING JAYA: Ankle-deep muddy water is gushing across the streets of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, where a retaining wall collapsed recently.

Photos and videos shared by residents with StarMetro showed water rising in the area after a downpour that began at approximately 4pm on Monday (April 20).

TTDI Residents Association executive council member Khairudin Rahim, in a text message, said the water was spotted along Jalan Abang Haji Openg.

The retaining wall, part of a project by the National Landscape Department, collapsed after heavy rain on Saturday. It was reported that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued a stop-work order following the incident to facilitate clean-up operations.

Meanwhile, several instances of fallen trees have been reported across Kuala Lumpur following the thunderstorm.

A post by the Kuala Lumpur Command & Control Centre (KLCCC) showed a fallen tree blocking the leftmost lane in front of Pavilion Embassy in Jalan Ampang.

"Traffic from both directions is blocked. The DBKL rescue squad and traffic police are at the location," the statement read.

In a separate social media post, another fallen tree was reported at the Jalan Berangan-Jalan Nagasari intersection in Bukit Bintang.

Photos shared showed the tree blocking an access route into a residential area.
