PUCHONG residents can look forward to better sporting facilities closer to home.
Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the town’s first multipurpose sports complex which will be built in Jalan Persiaran Indera, Pusat Bandar Puchong.
The sports complex will have facilities such as a multipurpose court that can be used to play basketball, badminton and futsal.
Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said the project, costing RM16.25mil, was expected to be completed in August 2024.
“The multipurpose courts can also be converted into a futsal court measuring 42mx25m, with a 1,018 seating capacity.
“Other facilities inside the complex will include a changing room, judges’ room, guest room, media room, management office, toilets and prayer room.
“Outdoors, there will be a 270m jogging track, playground, parking lot and ancillary building, among others,” he said.
Johary said the project was in line with two sustainable development goals (SDG), namely SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
For next year, Johary said the city council has planned 39 infrastructure improvement projects that would cost RM125.4mil (see graphic); and allocated another RM49.49mil for maintenance of road and its assets, ditches and drains, recreational parks and street lights.
Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, who was present, said there were many misconceptions about the project on the 1.74ha after land-clearing works started.
He said some people had assumed that a green area was being cleared to make way for a condominium development.
“The project is on government land that has been gazetted for a sports complex a long time ago. There are trees but it is not a green lung.
“With MSBJ attaining city status (in 2020), the facilities will also improve.
“Recently, the state government built two covered basketball courts in Taman Rekreasi Wawasan that cost about RM1mil.
“An open stage is also under construction.
“A pedestrian walkway to connect Bandar Puteri Puchong to Taman Rekreasi Wawasan or Bukit Wawasan is also being built for the convenience of residents there.
“It is expected to be completed in a few months,” he said.
Separately, on MBSJ’s flood mitigation efforts, Johary said it had shortlisted 19 flood hotspots, and contractors had been tasked to ensure that the irrigation system would be maintained as scheduled.
“Water levels in four areas are also being monitored to alert the people of flood risks.”
For the long-term, Johary said the irrigation system in Jalan Subang 10 in Taman Perindustrian Subang, Subang Jaya, as well as in Kampung Kenangan and Jalan Tempinis in Puchong and its surrounding areas would also be upgraded.
