Free insurance for six million Selangorians

ABOUT six million people in Selangor from the age of one month to 80 are set to benefit from a general insurance coverage that will pay compensation of up to RM10,000 in the event of death, accident or injury.

Announcing this at the briefing session held by Mentri Besar Incorporated (MBI), Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the coverage, amounting to a total of RM60bil, would be fully borne by the state.

Known as the Selangor Life Insurance Scheme (Insan), it would be fully implemented by MBI, said its chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

“Implementation of the programme will be fully digital.

“It will be done through Wavpay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd (Wavpay), a subsidiary of MBI, which will act as the service operator for this programme," she said.

Eligible Selangor citizens can start registering from Oct 1, 2022 to Sept 30, 2023 on the Wavpay eWallet mobile application which can be downloaded for free from Google's Android and Apple's iOS.

Information can also be obtained through local public service and coordination centres in the state.

The programme was announced by Amirudin at the state-level Merdeka Day celebrations on Aug 31 as one of the initiatives for the people of Selangor.
