Guangdong Intercity Railway Operation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guangzhou Metro Group, signed an infrastructure maintenance service contract with Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link Operation in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday for the Maran section of the East Coast Rail Link.

The agreement focuses on long-term operation and maintenance services and local skills training. The cooperation will help enhance Malaysia's rail transit operation and maintenance capabilities and cultivate a localized, sustainable professional maintenance workforce, according to Guangzhou Metro Group.

As a flagship project between China and Malaysia, the East Coast Rail Link stretches approximately 665 kilometers. Once operational, it will become a key land route connecting the east and west coasts of Malaysia.

The project is important for revitalizing industries in cities along the route, boosting local employment, promoting balanced regional development and enhancing Malaysia's integrated transportation network.

Early in July, East Coast Rail Link Operations Sdn. Bhd. issued a letter of award to Guangdong Intercity for infrastructure maintenance assistance.

The new service contract advances Guangzhou Metro's international strategy and further boosts cooperative achievements between China and Malaysia under the Belt and Road Initiative. - China Daily/ANN
