VEHICLES parked illegally along Persiaran Jalil Utama and Jalan 13/155c in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur are posing a safety hazard to motorists.
These haphazardly parked vehicles on both sides of the main road occupy one lane, causing congestion to road users.
Bandar Kinrara resident Hiu Chee Keong said the cars were obstructing traffic, resulting in less space for drivers to manoeuvre their vehicles as they head to the main road.
“I travel on this road when taking my daughter to Pavilion Bukit Jalil and often encounter traffic jams caused by vehicles parked illegally.
“There are even cars parked at the junction and they block the vision of the drivers when they want to make a turn, thereby making the place prone to accidents.
“Drivers who wish to make the turn are forced to enter the right-most lane of the road because vehicles are usually parked illegally on the left lane,” said the 52-year-old.
Hiu also said that some drivers would make a quick turn onto the main road, forcing incoming vehicles to brake suddenly.
“This can be dangerous to other road users.
“I counted the illegally parked vehicles in the area and there were about 100 cars,” he said.
StarMetro visited the area recently and noticed that vehicles were parked along Jalan 13/155c right up until the entrance of the one-lane flyover to the Bukit Jalil highway.
Motorists had no choice but to slow down while taking the flyover as the illegally parked vehicles were blocking part of the road.
Hiu said he had lodged a complaint on this issue through the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) “adukl” website on July 25.
DBKL in its reply said it had received numerous complaints about illegal parking in the area and enforcement was carried out, including issuing compounds to traffic offenders.
“But, I don’t see much improvement in the area.
“I hope DBKL can take sterner action like towing these vehicles that are causing obstructions to other motorists,” Hiu said.
Sri Rakyat Apartment Bukit Jalil resident Mohd Shamsul Mohd Razlan, 46, said the problem was getting worse.
“There used to be fewer vehicles which parked here but when the area got more developed, more cars are parking illegally along the road.
“With these cars parked here, it is a matter of time before an accident happens.
“Most of the vehicle owners are either working in the nearby commercial areas or just people wanting to avoid paying for parking,” he said.
When contacted, DBKL acknowledged the matter but had yet to respond to the issue as at press time.
